Tage Frid was born in Denmark and learned his woodworking as an apprentice and cabinetmaker there. Shorty after World War II the American Crafts Council invited him to establish a woodworking program at the School for American Craftsmen (now School for American Crafts) then located in Alfred, NY. When the School moved to the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY Tage came with it. He became a co-founder of Shop One with Frans Wildenhain, Jack Prip and Ronald Pearson in 1952.
In the late '50's he left R.I.T. to teach at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. Throughout his career Tage had numerous commissions in homes, offices and churches as well as having his work in the permanent collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
In 1975 he became a contributing editor of Fine Woodworking magazine and produced several books on woodworking techniques.
