Darlene's a math whiz, an excellent writer, a talented gymnast, and an expert at "FreeZone," despite its reputation as a "boy's game." She's friendly and outgoing, but sometimes can put people off with her extensive knowledge on a variety of subjects. She's not really a "know-it-all," she insists. To those who disagree with her about this, she has an elaborate argument to prove how she's right.

Darlene lives next door to Silver Streak, and she quickly figures out that the visiting Freaky-Dee is the sister of the boy who pretends not to stare at her in school. The two girls worship Darlene ("She has pierced ears!") and Darlene uses Freaky as a source of information on the mysterious Superfunk.

Darlene is all about research.
